TODAY'S WORD FOR Wednesday, January 01, 2020:

A NEW YEAR

DefinitionDEFINITION:

The beginning of a new calendar year.

ScriptureSCRIPTURE:

A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, as I have loved you, that you also love one another.
John 13:34

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCEKNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

As we begin a new year it is a good time for each one of us to take a new look at our life and consider what we might like to accomplish in the new year. People ask one another what their new year resolutions are? What they are asking is, “What are your goals?”

We asked you yesterday, “Have you set any goals for 2020?” If not, may we suggest that you stop right now and begin your list.

The first goal on your list should be to, “Love the Lord your God with all of your heart, soul and mind -- Deuteronomy 6:5.”

The second goal relates to the verse we have put above as Jesus commands His disciples. We are to love one another, as Jesus has loved us.

If we all made these two goals a priority in 2020, we would change the world. If you desire to make these two goals a priority in your life may we suggest some steps for you to consider today to make this a reality for you.

First, you need a daily relationship with our Lord. You need to take time to read a portion of His Word, then to pray and finally to take time to meditate on the portion of scripture you read. God has promised to guide you in His path and to be with you through every concern you encounter if you leave your cares to Him and put your total trust in Him. How else are you going to accomplish this if you do not communicate with God reading His Word and praying to Him?

Second, you need to take the time to know and understand the Ten Commandments and set your standards of living based on these commandments. If you are obedient to all of God’s commandments, God will bless you richly. Look up these ten commandments in Exodus 20 and memorize them.

We encourage you to claim the verse from Joshua 1:9 to be one of your key verses you memorize and refer to daily. “Be strong and of good courage, do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Living a God-fearing life guided by God’s Standards (The Ten Commandments) guarantees you a remarkable 2020 filled with blessings from God that will bring you peace and joy.

Third, you need to set firm goals as to your relationship with your family, your spouse and your children. We need to remember that for a nation to turn back to God it must begin in the home. God expects us to begin our relationship with Him and then with our family. All of “the other things” in life cannot come before God and family.

When you help someone in need you will find their attitude changes. Not only are you bringing a change in their life but you will find it brings change in you.

LEARNINGLEARNING:

Our memory verse for this week is found in Proverbs 11:25.

The generous soul will be made rich. And he who waters will also be watered himself.

PRAYERPRAYER:

Thank You for the tough valley’s we have gone through and the high mountains we have climbed this past year. As we begin a New Year help us to keep our priorities and commitments focused on You.
