TODAY'S WORD FOR Monday, June 17, 2019:
A person who herds, tends, and guards sheep; a person who protects, guides, or watches over other people; a cleric or a pastor.
I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know Me, just as the Father knows Me and I know the Father, and I lay down My life for the sheep. I have other sheep that are not of this sheep pen. I must bring them also. They too listen to My voice, and there shall be one flock and one shepherd.
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
Sheep are very dependent on a shepherd for their very survival. They must be guided to food and water. They are defenseless and need a shepherd to protect them from their enemies.
We are very much like sheep. We need a good shepherd to guide us and protect us. Our Lord is that good shepherd. That means He is not a shepherd that abandons His sheep. He fights every enemy and defeats every foe. He is the great protector and provider and guides His sheep into nourishing pastures. He makes them lie down beside still waters and He restores the soul.
He is our shepherd and knows us and calls us by name. We are not a number to Him. We are His, His very own. With Him, we are fully known, wholly loved and altogether secure.
Sheep know the voice of their shepherd and come to him when he calls. They will follow their shepherd and no one else.
The good shepherd laid down His life for His sheep. He demonstrated His love for us in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us Romans 5:8. You are part of His flock. Listen for His voice and follow where He leads you. He is your good Shepherd and cares for you.
Our memory verse this week is found in James 1:22.
But be doers of the Word and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.
Thank You, dear Lord, for being my good Shepherd. Thank You for Your leading, blessing and protection. Help me to listen for your voice and follow wherever You lead me.
