TODAY'S WORD FOR Friday, February 16, 2018:

To withstand; strive against; actively oppose.

Submit yourselves then to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.
James 4:7

You are from God, little children, and have overcome them; because greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world.
I John 4:4

The power to defeat Satan in our lives is available to every believer in Jesus Christ as Savior. Jesus triumphed over Satan at the cross. This was a victory that contained no hint of defeat. The good news is that we can declare victory over Satan in our daily battles because we are indwelt with the triumphant power of Jesus Christ through the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives. By calling on the divine power of God we have the authority to resist Satan and all his demons.

Satan is very much alive and he is actively working in this world but God, who is in us by the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, is far greater than Satan. How do we resist the devil?

First, we must claim the name of Jesus by praying in Jesus name. When we use the name of Jesus we are doing what He has called us to do. We are to act with authority over Satan by demonstrating that we are in Christ.

Secondly, we are to claim the blood of Jesus which will give us His protection. The blood is our protection and the basis of our redemption. You can read further in Matthew 26:28; Ephesians 1:7 and Hebrews 9: 11-28 for assurance of the shed blood of Jesus. The blood of Jesus Christ paid the price of our sins and eternally broke the power of Satan over us.

Thirdly, we need to claim the Word of God. Jesus put an end to Satan’s words of temptation by quoting scripture. He confronted the enemy with the Word of God and we must do the same. It does no good to argue with Satan, just quote the Word of God and you will silence him.

Our memory verse for this week is found in Philippians 1:6.

Being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.

Thank You that You have given me the power to defeat the enemy’s temptations in my life. Thank You for your almighty, supernatural power that is available to me. Help me to honor You this day and may I resist the devil by the power of Your Holy Spirit and the truth of Your Word.
